Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has broken several records already since taking the helm in December 2018
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has broken several records since being in charge at United, and although one or two are down to the team, he certainly played his part in the records being set or reset.
The first record Solskjaer broke in his tenure was the amount of players making their debut's in a single game. Laird, Bernard and Levitt all started in the Europa League group stage in last season's tournament with Ramazani, Galbraith and Mellor coming off the bench.
The next record broken was Anthony Martial's hat trick against Sheffield United, the first for United since 22nd April 2013, when Robin van Persie scored THAT hat trick against Aston Villa.
On 9th July Manchester United became the first team to win by a margain of three goals or more, for four consecutive matches. The score lines on that amazing run was Manchester United 3-0 Sheffield United, Brighton 0-3 Manchester United, Manchester United 5-2 Bournemouth and Aston Villa 0-3 Manchester United.
Less than a week later, Ole broke yet another record with United. He named the exact same starting XI for five consecutive matches, a record that stood for 27 years. The last time that happened was February 1993.
As the Premier League came to a close, Ole's Manchester United broke yet another long standing record. This one dates back to the Busby Babes in 1967/68. The record is the youngest average age of the starting line up. The average age of United was 24 years 343 days, which is the second youngest in Manchester United's history. Sir Matt Busby's youngsters are the record holders with an average age of 24 years 285 days.
The final and most recent record broken this season is most debuts given in a season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave eight debuts to academy players last season. Along with the six players that featured against Astana, the other two were Brandon Williams and Teden Mengi.
Ole definitely has his critics, but he has more fans backing him. He's transformed United dramatically since the days of Jose Mourinho and who knows what could happen next season IF he's given the tools he needs by the board. We shall see, but he's already done a lot at the club he loves in a very short period.
Well done Ole! Keep progressing!
