The Red Devils were handed a penalty after the Brighton clash which helped them regain the 3 points they had lost following Brighton’s late equalizer.
There would probably be no greater shock this season for the Seagulls this season than the after game penalty handed to Man United yesterday.
Graham Potter and his men concluded they were leaving the pitch sharing points with United until the referee awarded an after game penalty.
Many have been calling out the Red Devils with claims they had manipulated the match but according to EPL rules and laws, the penalty was a valid one.
Looking at the reports, Brighton’s Maupay blocked the last kick with his hand in the 18yard box before the referee sounded the whistle.
After which his attention was called to the VAR stand with reports of the foul which warranted the referee to point towards the 18-yare box to award United a penalty.
IFAB Law 2 also states: “If at the end of the half, the referee leaves the field of play to go to the referee review area (RRA) or to instruct the players to return to the field of play, this does not prevent a decision being changed for an incident which occurred before the end of the half.”
But had it been the penalty was blocked by keeper and a rebound scored then the goal wouldn’t have been counted.
