Mason Greenwood enjoyed a fabulous breakthrough year at Manchester United last season and established himself as one of European football’s biggest teenage stars.
His tally of 17 goals in the 2019-20 campaign saw him equal George Best, Brian Kidd and Wayne Rooney for having the most-ever goals in a single season for Man Utd as a teenager.
Greenwood was in top form when United returned to action after lockdown, operating off the right-hand side and showcasing his two-footed finishing ability for all to see.
The release of FIFA 21 is drawing ever closer, and as you’d expect, Mason is one of the most improved players and has been given a massive upgrade by EA Sports.
Big FIFA upgrade for Greenwood
The 18-year-old Englishman had a 67 rating on FIFA 20, but in the new game which comes out on October 9, he will be rated 77 - a huge +10 upgrade to his overall attributes.
Greenwood’s position has changed from centre-forward to right midfield and the talented youngster should still boast the highly sought after “5-Star Weak Foot” trait.
To add some context, the size of Greenwood’s upgrade is equal to Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka’s and larger than that of Bayern Munich treble winner Alphonso Davies (+9).
The seven players with bigger upgrades than Greenwood
However, there are seven players who received a bigger increase in overall rating than Greenwood’s rise of ten from FIFA 20 to FIFA 21 - check them out below:
7 Pervis Estupinan (Villarreal, Age: 22) - Upgrade: +11 (68 to 79)
6 Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund, Age: 20) - Upgrade: +11 (73 to 84)
5 Christoph Baumgartner (Hoffenheim, Age: 21) - Upgrade: +12 (63 to 75)
4 Edmond Tapsoba (Bayer Leverkusen, Age: 21) - Upgrade: +12 (66 to 78)
3 Sebastian Cordova (Club America, Age: 23) - Upgrade: +13 (62 to 75)
2 Dejan Kuluesvski (Juventus, Age: 20) - Upgrade: +13 (64 to 77)
1 Marash Kumbulla (Roma, Age: 20) - Upgrade: +15 (60 to 75)
Marash Kumbulla produced superb displays during Verona’s return to Serie A, while Dejan Kulusevski’s encouraging campaign at Parma earned him a summer move to Italian champions Juventus.
Edmond Tapsoba grew in confidence in central defence for Leverkusen and we all know how sensational the 44-goal Erling Haaland performed last term both for Red Bull Salzburg and Dortmund.
That said, when you consider that Mason Greenwood is at least two years younger than all seven players in that above list, it highlights just how incredible a prospect United’s new number 11 truly is.
